We answer the same questions about Dension units in Audi’s every day so I figured I would make this application guide to make your purchase a little easier.

iPod Cables

The Dension units do not come with and iPod cable.  They are sold separately because not everyone owns an iPod or iPhone and they give you 2 different choices.  Below are the 2 different cables.

Dension IPO5DC9 – Basic iPod cable
Dension IP44CR9 – iPod Cradle with Built in iPod cable

Power Boosters

If you are using an iPod touch Gen2 Gen3 or Gen4 or an iPhone 3 , 3GS or 4 You will need a power booster.  The Dension units supply .5 amp through the iPod cable. The mentioned units when running on Apple OS4 use 1 amp of power.  Some of the newer units do not require the power booster use the guide to determine if one is needed for your application.  The iPo5DC9 cable and the IP44CR9 cradle are designed to handle the higer current.  Do not use older cables with the booster or the new 1amp units.

Audi Aftermarket Radio Installation Guide Audi A4 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006

Friday, September 10th, 2010

This is no longer the most current guide.  Go to the main product page for the the latest guide.
http://enfigcarstereo.com/RADIO_AUDI_A4_02.html

Below we will go over the parts needed to replace the radio in you Audi A4 2004 2005 2006.  I’m going to break this up into RNS-E Navigation radios and Symphony II in dash CD changer radios.

SymphonyII Radio Harness

The first thing you will need is a radio harness. The radio harness will connect the power and audio wires from your new radio to your car without cutting the factory wiring.

The best radio harness is the Enfig SRWH-AUD2 .  This harness will give you all your speaker leads, constant +12V, ground, switched ignition +12 power leads. It will also give you your illumination, VSS / vehicle speed sense, reverse (gives you a signal when you put the car in reverse to activate a back up cam) wires. If you add the radio specific steering wheel control lead this adapter will also enable your factory steering wheel controls to work with your car without any programing or additional modules.  It will also integrate your Bose & non Bose factory amplifier with your aftermarket radio.  (radio must have amplifier RCA outputs)

http://enfigcarstereo.com/ENFIG_SRWH_AU2.html

Steering wheel control option. If you add an Enfig SWCL (Steering Wheel Control Lead) to the SRWH-AUD3 the SRWH will also allow your cars steering wheel controls to control most aftermarket radios.

The link below takes you to all the steering wheel control leads.
http://enfigcarstereo.com/ENFIG_SWCL.html

If you are on a budget you can get the  ENFIG RWH-AUD1B .  This harness will give you your constant +12V power and ground wires as well as factory Bose and non Bose amplifier integration. Switched ignition +12 power, Illumination, VSS / vehicle speed sense, reverse (gives you a signal when you put the car in reverse to activate a back up cam) wires are not behind the radio and must be located elsewhere in the car.

http://enfigcarstereo.com/ENFIG_SWCL.html

http://enfigcarstereo.com/ENFIG_RWH_AUD1B.html

Symphony II Antenna Adapter
Your car will need an amplified antenna adapter. Your car has 2 window mounted AM/FM antennas. The Enfig AAA-VWAUD2 antenna adapter will convert your factory antenna connections  into the aftermarket radio industry standard Motorola antenna connection. It will also provide power to your antenna amplifier . You must use the amplified antenna adapter or you will have a severe loss in reception.

http://enfigcarstereo.com/ENFIG_AAA_VWAUD2.html

The Enfig AAA-VAAUD1 will also work in this application but it will only use one of your antennas. The Enfig AAA-VWAUD2 antenna adapter is a better option because it will use a both of your antennas.

http://enfigcarstereo.com/ENFIG_AAA_VWAUD1.html

RNS-E Radio Harness

The first thing you will need is a radio harness. The radio harness will connect the power and audio wires from your new radio to your car without cutting the factory wiring.

The best radio harness is the Enfig SRWH-AUD3 . This harness will give you all your speaker leads, constant +12V, ground, switched ignition +12 power leads. It will also give you your illumination, VSS / vehicle speed sense, reverse (gives you a signal when you put the car in reverse to activate a back up cam) wires. If you add the $10 radio specific steering wheel control lead this adapter will also enable your factory steering wheel controls to work with your car without any programing or additional modules.  It will also integrate your Bose & non Bose factory amplifier with your aftermarket radio.  (radio must have amplifier RCA outputs)

http://enfigcarstereo.com/ENFIG_SRWH_AUD3.html

If you are on a budget you can get the ENFIG RWH-AUD3B wiring harness.  It gives you power, ground and RCA out for the Bose amp.  It does not include: switched ignition +12 power, illumination, VSS / vehicle speed sense or  reverse.  If you do not have a Bose system then the ENFIG RWH-AUD3 is the budget harness.

Steering wheel control option. If you add an Enfig SWCL (Steering Wheel Control Lead) to the SRWH-AUD3 the SRWH will also allow your cars steering wheel controls to control most aftermarket radios.

The link below takes you to all the steering wheel control leads.

RNS-E Antenna Adapter
Your car will need is an amplified antenna adapter. Your car has 2 window mounted AM/FM antennas. The Enfig AAA-VWAUD5 antenna adapter will convert your factory antenna connections  into the aftermarket radio industry standard Motorola antenna connection. It will also provide power to your antenna amplifier . You must use the amplified antenna adapter or you will have a severe loss in reception.

http://enfigcarstereo.com/ENFIG_AAA_VWAUD5.html

The Enfig AAA-VAAUD3  will also work in this application but it will only use one of your antennas. The Enfig AAA-VWAUD5 antenna adapter is a better option because it will use a both of your antennas.

RNS-E & Symphony II Double Din Radio Installation Dash Kit
A radio installation dash kit will take the Audi specific opening in your dash and convert it into a aftermarket radio industry standard opening.

The best double din kit is the ENFIG RMK8-A4B67.  It has a matte coating that matches the factory dash and there is no separate trim piece.

http://enfigcarstereo.com/ENFIG_RMK8_A4B67.html

The Metra 99-9107B listed below with the single din radio mounting kits works but since you cannot remover the radio once you install it we do not consider it compatible.

RNS-E & Symphony II Single Din Radio Installation Dash Kit

The best Single din radio installation dash kit is the ENFIG RMK4-A4B67. It has a matte coating that matches the factory dash and there is no separate trim piece.

http://enfigcarstereo.com/ENFIG_RMK4_A4B67.html

GPS antenna Adapters

If your car came with a factory GPS unit we have converters that allow you to use your factory GPS antenna with your aftermarket GPS radio.

Audi A4 Aftermarket Radio Installation Guide A4 2007 2008

This is no longer the most current guide.  Go to the main product page for the the latest guide.

Radio Installation Dash Kit

A radio installation dash kit will take the Audi specific opening in your dash and convert it into a aftermarket radio industry standard opening.

Enfig RMK8-A4B67 This is the best kit available for a double din radio.
The matte coating matches texture of the Audi dash.  The face of the kit also acts as a trim kit for a seamless look.  The depth is also adjustable for  full custom adjustment.
http://enfigcarstereo.com/ENFIG_RMK8_A4B67.html

Enfig RMK4-A4B67 is the single din version of the kit above.

Antenna Adapter

The correct antenna adapter is the Enfig AAA-VWAUD5
http://enfigcarstereo.com/ENFIG_AAA_VWAUD5.html
The connectors on your factory antenna cables behind the radio are different that the standard antenna connection behind most aftermarket antennas.  Your factory antenna also has a built in amplifier.  The blue wire connects to your new radio to turn on the amp.

Radio Harness

You will also need a radio harness. The radio harness will connect the power and audio wires from your new radio to your car without cutting the factory wiring.

The best radio harness is the Enfig SRWH-AUD3 http://enfigcarstereo.com/ENFIG_SRWH_AUD3.html

This harness will connect to the following wires behind your radio: constant  power, ground, switched power, illumination, VSS, Reverse, speakers amp integration for Bose and non Bose systems including an amp turn on wire. This unit will also integrate your steering wheel controls with combined with an SWCL.  For a more detailed description read below.

You either have a Bose or non Bose audio system.  In both systems  the rear speakers and subwoofer are amplified by the external amp.  In the Bose system the external amp also powers the front speakers.  In the non  Bose system the front speakers are amplified by the radio.

, ground & front speaker wires (in a Bose audio system all the speakers run through the amp, in a NON Bose audio system only the rear speakers and sub woofer are amplified)

The following wires are done by your cars can-bus system and cannot be utilized behind the radio without a can-bus reader. The Enfig SRWH-AUD3 reads the can-bus and generates the following wires:

Illumination: This wire tells the radio to dim when you turn on your headlights so its not a bright eyesore at night.

Vehicle Speed Sense (VSS): This wire will tell a navigation radio how fast you are going if you lose the GPS signal.  The radio will calculate how far you have traveled on the current road  in order to keep you on track in you ever lose GPS signal.  Comes in really handy when coming out of the NYC side of the Lincoln tunnel.

Reverse Wire This wire will tell the radio when you are in
reverse and send a +12v signal to tell the radio to turn on the back up screen and back up camera.

Switched 12v RAP (Retained Accessory Power) retained accessory power wire turns on when you turn the key and stays on until you pull out the key. Most harneses will tutn off the radio as soon as you turn off the key.   It will also give you your illumination, , reverse (gives you a 12+ signal when you put the car in reverse to activate a back up cam) wires.

Steering wheel control option. If you add an Enfig SWCL (Steering Wheel Control Lead) to the SRWH-AUD3 the SRWH will also allow your cars steering wheel controls to control most aftermarket radios.

The link below takes you to all the steering wheel control leads.

GPS antenna Adapters

If your car came with a factory GPS unit we have converters that allow you to use your factory GPS antenna with your aftermarket GPS radio.

Audi iPod guide A6 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

We sell and install everything on this page at out store in NJ.

We ship worldwide.

We offer lifetime technical support for you and/or your installer.  But do not offer any support for units not purchased from us.  We have installed over 500 of these units and sold thousands worldwide. No one knows how these units work in your A6 better then us except the guys at Dension.

Here at Enfig Car Stereo we answer the same questions every day so I figured that if I made this guide it would clarify most of the questions and let us get back onto the forums. We specialize in Volkswagen & Audi. We also carry all the relevant iPod interfaces on the market and have been selling Auxiliary AUX interfaces for over 10 years since they were just used for people who wanted a direct audio input for their in-car TV’s. Everything on this page is for sale on our website EnfigCarStereo.com or you can click on the image of the item for a direct link to the item. PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE PAGE BEFORE CALLING US WITH QUESTIONS. It will help you make the best decision as to what interface you need and help keep us from answering repetitive questions. But if you do have questions after reading this please feel free to call us. We will be more than happy to speak to you.

Lets start with the car.
A6 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 (yes it works with the years that the dealership has nothing for)

What type of audio system you have does not matter with the 2005-2009 A6. All of these cars have a CD changer in the glove box.  The adapter connects to the fiber optic cables behind the CD changer.  The only other connection needed is a constant +12V and ground (for power).  These connections can be made at the passenger side fuse box without cutting any wires or making any permanent modifications to the vehicle.  This unit will not have any effect on any existing system in the car including factory Blue Tooth and satellite Radio.

Dension GW51M02

Dension GW51MO2

Dension GW51MO2

http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/DENSION_GW51MO2.html

The unit includes the main unit (silver box), iPod Cable (blue connector), 2 pairs of fiber optic cables (orange), aux/switcher box, power cable (red & black wires) & USB extension cable.

Audi Dealership Setting: The switcher box turns off the Dension unit.  When you need to take your car in for service put the switch into the off (empty circle) position and the Dension unit will disappear off the fiber optic loop.  This will prevent any interference with the Audi diagnostic equipment.

Aux audio input:  The switcher box also has red & white RCA ports.  This is a direct audio input that can be connected to your phone, rear seat TV’s or just about anything you can imagine.  I have a customer that connects his DJ equipment to the port so he can perform in parking lots out of his trunk.

USB:  This unit has a dual purpose USB port.  It will be used to update the software in the unit in under 5 minutes using a portable memory stick with software downloaded off the Dension site.  It can can also play music copied onto a Portable memory stick or hard drive. ID tags will be displayed on the display on the center of the dash.

iPod cable:  The iPod cable will charge your iPod (see the web site for supported models). It will transfer CD quality music & data to your cars audio system. In iPod GW mode this unit will let you see all the the song info from your iPod on the screen in your center console and offer full iPod control from the radio controls. The iPod controls are locked out in this mode. In iPod UI mode you have full control from the iPod but no text on the radio. Its an apple limitation.  You can also use your internet radio stations in this mode.  This mode allows song up & down controls of the iPod from the radio & Steering wheel controls. See the following page for more info on audio quality http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/faqs/answers/which-bitrate-should-i-choose

Power cable: The power cable supplies the Dension brain with power.

Fiber optic cables: These cables carry all the data & audio from the Dension brain to your audio system.

Below is a video that demonstrates how the unit works in your A6 (4 Years old)

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k07GX7kATro&rel=0]

This is a newer video in an A8.  The function is the same but it is a better demonstration.

Installation

I usually get power from the top row of the fuse box.  There are usually a few open fuses that you can tap into.  I put a spade connector on the end of a fuse holder and connect the other end of the fuse holder to the red Dension power cable.  I use the bolt that holds the bottom of the fuse box as a ground.  This way the entire unit can be taken out of the car without any evidence of the unit being installed.  The wires can be run to the back of the CD changer without having remove the glove box.

There is a pocket directly to the right of the CD changer.  On the back top left & right there are holes that fit the round end of the iPod cable perfectly.  We also sell a few dash mounts and an ashtray mount. (see below for more info)

I usually mount the aux/switcher box and the USB extension cable to the bottom of the glove box.  If you look under the glove box there is a black plastic panel that just snaps off.  I take it out of the car and mount them on the work bench.  You can also tuck them behind the top of the passenger side carpet if you don’t think you are going to use them regularly.

Now to get the the fiber optic cables on the back of the CD changer I usually take out the CD changer.  You can also just disconnect the CD changer connections from underneath the glove box once you take out the black plastic panel.

Follow the wiring instructions in the installation manual for the fiber optic connections and connections at the Dension brain.

I mount the main unit to a plastic grid directly behind the CD changer using long Zip Ties.

Below are the keys you will need to take out the CD changer.

Mounting
Most of my customers leave their iPod in the glove box.  If you only have an iPhone or perfer to control your iPod using the iPod controls you may want your iPod to be easily accessible.  We offer an ashtray mount and a few mounts. Or lest face it the spec.dock does look pretty cool.  The dash mounts just give you a mounting surface so you don’t have to make holes on your dashboard.  Look at our iPod holders for ways to mount your iPod at the following link: http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/ipod_holders.html

2point5 spec.dock AUDIC6V2I

The spec.dock is the cleanest way to mount your iPod.  It replaces your ashtray and gives you the cleanest possible way to mount your iPod.

Audi iPod Guide R8

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

R8

What type of audio system you have does not matter with the  R8.  All cars have the navigation radio pictured below. All of these radios have an external CD changer port that is tricked into thinking that there is an external CD changer attached so that the audio port is activated and opened to allow the transfer of audio from your iPod to your radio. NONE OF THESE INTERFACES WILL DISABLE YOUR IN DASH CD PLAYER.

Lets start with how to take out the radio.

The following video will show you how to take out the non navigation radio.

Connection Locations
There are 2 places to connect your interface. To the CD changer port behind the radio or to the black CD changer port in the glove box. All cars have the connection behind the radio. Most cars also have the connection in the glove box.  If you have a CD changer in the glove box then you definitely have the connection.  I have had 2 customers with what they called “demo” cars that did not have the CD changer or connection in the glove box.

Factory Satellite Radio

If you have factory XM or Sirius satellite radio it will be plugged into the CD changer port. If you don’t plan on using the XM or Sirius satellite radio you can just unplug it and disable it. If you plan on using the factory XM or Sirius satellite radio there are 2 options. All cars can use the Enfig Audi Sat Pass 2 http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/ENFIG_AUDI_SAT_PASS_2.html. The Enfig Audi Sat Pass 2 connects behind the radio on one end and connects to the satellite tuner in the trunk on the other end. If you happen to have the glove box CD changer connection you can use the Enfig Audi Sat Pass 3 http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/ENFIG_AUDI_SAT_PASS_3.html. This harness was designed to connect behind the radio on one end and to the CD changer connection in the glove box on the other end. They both do the same job but obviously the Enfig Audi Sat Pass 3 will make the installation easier if you have the glove box CD changer connection.

Internet radio: Some iPods like the touch & iPhone are capable of internet radio like AOL radio & Pandora. All of the iPod adapters below will allow you to play the audio through your factory radio. Non offer any control of internet radio besides volume.

Charging
All the interfaces below with the exception of the generic auxiliary aux audio input charge the iPod the new 5V USB charging that is required for the 4th Gen nano, Touch 2nd Gen, iPhone 3G & iPhone 3Gs as well as charging older iPods as well.

AUX
The first time of iPod adapter we will talk about is actually not an iPod adapter. It is the universal Auxiliary AUX adapter. Before you jump on this adapter let me remind you that we also carry iPod adapters that not only have an iPod specific cable but also have a secondary Auxiliary Aux input via 3.5mm jack or RCA input for all other devices that are not iPods. Since there are a few different brands I am going to discuss them on a separate page.insert link here.

I have included all adapters below just so you know whats available.  But for the money you paid for the car I’d just skip down to the Dension units.

BlitzSafe

BlitzSafe is the entry level iPod adapter. It works through the external CD changer port. The radio displays disc 1 track 99 (or Disc7 Track 99). The iPod is charged while the radio is on and for 20 minutes after you turn off the ignition. The only control from the radio and steering wheel controls is volume. The iPod controls are never locked. Notes: Does not work with 4th generation Nano. On the later radio software if you press track up or track down on the radio or steering wheel controls the radio will lock up and shut off the music. You have to go to FM then back to CD to reset the unit. Obviously its not a big deal because you really aren’t supposed to use the buttons anyway.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXoivIndHlA]

Grom
Grom adds control from the radio and steering wheel controls. On disc 1 the iPod controls are unlocked and you have track up & track down controls from the radio and steering wheel. Disc 2 is your second, disc 3 is your third , disc 4 is your fourth , disc 5 is your fifth, disc 6 is your sixth playlist on your iPod in alphabetical order. On disc 2-6 the controls on the iPod are locked but the you still have track up & track down controls from the radio and steering wheel controls. Notes: On the later radio software if you press track up or track down on the radio or steering wheel controls the radio will lock up and shut off the music. It’s a big deal because you pay extra money for this interface for the control.

USA Spec
USA Spec adds a secondary Auxiliary Aux audio input via a left and right RCA plugs on the side of the unit. Disc 1 is your first, disc 2 is your second, disc 3 is your third playlist on your iPod in alphabetical order. Disc 4 is all the songs on your iPod in one playlist. On disc 1-4 the controls on the iPod are locked but you still have track up & track down controls from the radio and steering wheel controls. Disc 5 unlocks the iPod controls and you have track up & track down controls from the radio and steering wheel. Disc 6 is the Auxiliary Aux audio input. The later radio software has no problems with this interface.
USA SPEC PA11-VW6 connects behind radio
USA Spec currently does not have a unit that uses the connector in the center console.

Dice Electronics

The dice i-VWR/i-VW-T unit never locks the controls on the iPod. Disc 1 activates track up/track down. Disc 2 activates playlist up/playlist down, once you find the playlist you are looking for you go back to disc 1 to go up and down the songs on the selected playlist. Since the controls on the iPod are never locked you can always keep it on disc 1 and select your music (like a genre) from the iPod controls and the go track up and down from the radio or steering wheel controls. The Auxiliary Aux audio input is controlled by disc 5 track one is iPod track 2 is Aux. When you are in the aux mode discs 1-4 act like EQ & volume for the aux. Its a nice feature since some of these external units have low audio levels. Dice also advertises artist and album controls on disc 3-4 but we think they function poorly and think you should ignore them. The later radio software has no problems with this interface.

Dension

Dension makes the GW16AC1. The GW16VC1 will show text on the MFD (Multi Function Display). Works with both radios. As far as we know all cars come with the MFD. Below are 2 videos that demonstrate the interface in your car.

The GW16AC1 is the best interface available for your car. It will show all the information your iPod does on the MFD while the iPod controls are locked in GW mode. In UI mode the iPod controls are unlocked but you get no iPod text on the MFD. But you do get playlist up/Down on disc 1 & song up/down on disc 5. Then there is the AUX mode that gives you auxiliary Aux audio input via a female 3.5 mm headphone jack on the Dension Unit.

Dension

Dension makes the  GW16AC2. The Dension Units will show text on the MFD (Multi Function Display).  Your vehicle must have the multi function display in the instrument cluster. We are working on getting pictures of the multi function display. Below are 2 videos that demonstrate the interface in your car.

The Dension is the best interface available for your car. It will show all the information your iPod does on the MFD while the iPod controls are locked in GW mode. In UI mode the iPod controls are unlocked but you get no iPod text on the MFD. But you do get playlist up/Down on disc 1 & song up/down on disc 5. The Dension unit has an iPod cable that is sold separately. You must use a Dension cable. The reason it is sold separately is because they give you a few options. The options are below. You can also purchase the 2point5 spec.dock AUDIB7V2I mentioned in the next section.

iPod Mounting
Now that we have the iPod adapters out of the way. Some of you may want to keep your iPod mounted inside of the cabin instead of inside the glove box. There are several ways to do this.

2Point5 Spec Dock AUDIB6V2I is my favorite. It replaces your ashtray and turns it into a iPod dock. Very good especially if you have an iPhone. We also give you a $20 credit for your iPod cable if you order an adapter at the same time. Since Dension units are sold without the iPod cable the $20 credit does not apply to Dension interfaces.

ProClip also makes custom Dash Mounts that clip onto 3 different locations on your dash to give you a universal mounting surface for any purpose. When you use these dash mounts along with an iPod holder it places the iPod at a location that is convenient to you. ProClip makes 3 different ones for your car.

iPod Holders
We have many different iPod holders depending on your need. Some are just holders that do not incorporate the iPod cable. Then there are what we call cradles that hold the iPod cable in the holder so it does not get run over by the seat track or get wet on the floor. The best bet is to go on our website and browse your iPod model at the following link. http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/ipod_holders.html

Factory Satellite Radio

If you have factory XM or Sirius satellite radio it will be plugged into the CD changer port. If you don’t plan on using the XM or Sirius satellite radio you can just unplug it and disable it. If you plan on using the factory XM or Sirius satellite radio there are 3 options. The easiest is if you have a CD changer connection in the glove box and the adapter you choose has a version that connects in the glove box use the glove box CD changer connection and this will not disable the factory satellite radio.  If you don’t have the glove box CD changer connection; non navigation cars can use the Enfig Audi Sat Pass 1 http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/ENFIG_AUDI_SAT_PASS_1.html. The Enfig Audi Sat Pass 1 connects behind the radio on one end and connects to the satellite tuner in the trunk on the other end. If you happen to have the Navigation radio they all come with a CD changer in the glove box.  If this is the case you can use the Enfig Audi Sat Pass 3 http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/ENFIG_AUDI_SAT_PASS_3.html. This harness was designed to connect behind the navigation radio on one end and to the CD changer connection in the glove box on the other end.  Make sure that you do have the Glove box CD changer connection in the glove box.  Some of our customers have retrofitted the Navigation radio into cars that did not come with it from the factory.  If this is the case or you do not have the glove box CD changer connection please read the rest of the page in order to choose what interface you want then call us so we can verify that you are choosing the correct part.

iPod Mounting
Now that we have the iPod adapters out of the way. Some of you may want to keep your iPod mounted inside of the cabin instead of inside the glove box. There are several ways to do this.

2Point5 Spec Dock is my favorite. It replaces your ashtray and turns it into a iPod dock. Very good especially if you have an iPhone. There are 2 different models AUDIB6V2I & AUDIB7V2I.  The AUDIB6V2I is for 2004 & the early half of 2005.  The AUDIB7V2I is for the later half of 2005 & 2006.  The easiest way to tell which you need if you have a 2005 is to look at the cigarette lighter in the picture and compare ash trays.

Audi iPod iPhone AUX USB Guide A4 2007 2008

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

We know that choosing an iPod or aux adapter for your Audi can make your head spin so we made this guide to help you pick the right one for you.  We are going to start with the adapters available and then continue onto accessories and installation guides.

Dension GWF1AC1Dension GWF1AC1

iPod, AUX, USB  Bluetooth.

The Dension GWF1AC1 offers iPod and USB music with full text on the instrument cluster.  It also has OEM like Bluetooth that shows all the call info on the instrument cluster.  Also supports A2DP Bluetooth audio.  The car must be programmed to accept a factory Bluetooth and id the car has a factory Bluetooth it must be disconnected.  Also has a 3.5mm aux input.

Dension GW16AC1Dension GW33AC1

Dension GW16AC1Dension GW16AC1

The GW16AC1 will show text on the MFD (Multi Function Display).

The videos below will show you the unit in your car.

USA Spe PA11-VW6USA Spec PA11-VW6

BlitzSate VW/MLINK1 V.5BlitzSafe VW/M-Link1 V.5

BlitzSafe M-Link1 is the entry level iPod adapter. It works through the external CD changer port. The radio displays disc 1 track 99 (or Disc7 Track 99). The iPod is charged while the radio is on and for 20 minutes after you turn off the ignition. The only control from the radio and steering wheel controls is volume. The iPod controls are never locked.   On the later radio software if you press track up or track down on the radio or steering wheel controls the radio will lock up and shut off the music.  You have to go to FM then back to CD to reset the unit. Not a big deal because you really aren’t supposed to use the buttons anyway.

What type of audio system you have does not matter with the 2007 & 2008 A4.   There are two different radios in these cars. In dash 6 disc radio and the RNS-E Navigation radio (us market). All of these radios have an external CD changer port that is tricked into thinking that there is an external CD changer attached so that the audio port is activated and opened to allow the transfer of audio from your iPod to your radio. NONE OF THESE INTERFACES WILL DISABLE YOUR IN DASH CD CHANGER OR CD PLAYER.

Connection Locations

There are 2 places to connect your interface. To the CD changer port behind the radio or to the black CD changer port in the glove box. All cars have the connection behind the radio. Usually only the cars with factory installed navigation radios have the connection in the glove box because all cars equipped with a navigation radio also come equipped with a CD changer in that location. If you do not have a CD changer in the glove box it doesn’t hurt to check but unless someone swapped the navigation radio out of your car before you purchased it you will not have the black connection in the glove box.  A very small amount of cars with the in dash CD changer came with what is called iPod prep and also have the connection in the glove box.

All of the iPod adapters above will allow you to play the audio through your factory radio.

The 2007 & 2008 A4’s all came with the same non navigation  radio.  There were several different software upgrades through the 2 years.  The first version works perfectly and displays the external CD changer port as CD 1-6 EXT.  Somewhere down the line it was switched to CD 7-12 (late 2007)
